Rippowam PTO Announcements

Rippowam PTO Weekly NEWS/Week of December 3, 2015

Gift of Giving Event — Deadline 12/10
Student Council has teamed up with Kids Helping Kids again this holiday season for their Gift of Giving Event. They are collecting gently used items for kids and adults, such as toys, games, books, jewelry, jewelry boxes, household items etc. Deadline is December 10 and the drop off location is in Mrs. Schumann’s office.

Collection for 10th Mountain Division — 12/11
A big part of IB is community service and showing that we care. So we are having a collection to do just that! This is a collection to help a very specific unit of the Army. The 10th Mountain Division. Mr. Dubuque’s brother SPC Patrick Dubuque, is a medic in the 10th Mountain. Their official designation is the 10th Mountain Second Brigade Polar Bears. The brigade has been active since World War Two and is the most deployed brigade in the Army. They are currently serving in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

There are 111 soldiers in SPC Dubuque’s company, consisting of 107 men and 4 women. Most of them are in their late teens or early twenties. Not much older than you! There about 380 total soldiers deployed in Kandahar. They are scheduled to return in the Spring of 2016. For now, it is our goal to send them a holiday care package they will never forget! What the young men and women are missing most are the creature comforts. The things we take for granted like the ability to walk into a mini mart and grab a candy bar and a soda. Halloween candy, snacks, goodies…They want treats! They have an abundance of the usual military drive items like tissues and hand sanitizers. What they want are the
little things that help put smiles on faces. But beyond treats, the one thing they want the most is letters.

They love to get and respond to letters from YOU. So in addition to bringing in sweets and treats, write a letter to a soldier. Tell them how proud of them you are. Thank them for their service. Give the women props. Talk about a recent movie or TV show. Tell them about an awesome game you watched. Anything! The advisory class that shows the MOST spirit, enthusiasm and care will win a doughnut party courtesy of Mr. Dubuque. So bring in those letters, snacks and works of art! Attached is a list of requests directly from some of the soldiers in the 10th Mountain.
