Rippowam PTO announcements

RIPPOWAM PTO E-NEWSLETTER — WEEK OF September 5, 2016
 
Dear Rippowam Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to welcome students, parents and staff to the 2016/2017 school year at Rippowam International Baccalaureate Middle School.   Your Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is already planning many fun and educational activities to support you and your student’s social and learning environment.  Our first PTO meeting will be held on September 24th in the Cyber Café.  We encourage parents and staff to come out and see what we are all about.
Every one of you is already a member of the PTO.   Our goal is to foster an environment of cooperation between parents and teachers.   It has been proven that students whose parents are involved in their education have better grades and fewer discipline problems.  The more of you that get involved, the more the Rippowam community will thrive and have fun!
Attached you will find a list of PTO Board Members, an email release form, spirit wear order form and a donation form.  Please review and return any form(s) as soon as possible.
Don’t miss our first PTO Meeting!  Our administration will discuss their goals for the upcoming year and answer any questions.  We will also vote on our annual budget and discuss how the PTO can make this year extraordinary!
We look forward to meeting you all at our first PTO meeting.

6th Grade Back to School BBQ
RSVP for the 6th Grade Back to School BBQ on Saturday, September 17 from 12-2 p.m. at Rippowam! We are asking all attending families to bring chips or a dessert! RSVP atkelly@connorrobb.com. We are also in need of volumteers from 11am -3 pm. If you would like to volunteer to help, please contact Kelly Robb at Kelly@connorrobb.com

Soundwaters FREE Sailing Program
SoundWaters is pleased to announce a free fall afterschool program for 6-8th grade students called SoundWaters Sailing Academy.  We are able to offer this program free to the students through our own fundraising efforts.  SoundWaters is non-profit environmental education organization.  Our mission is to protect Long Island Sound through education. Through hands-on science education, we provide people with an awareness of the changes they can make in their lives and communities to restore, protect and preserve Long Island Sound and the environment as a whole.
  
Here are some details about our program:
 The focus/components of this FREE program:
·         Allow students to learn how to sail a small boat on Holly Pond (next to SoundWaters in Cove Park) with a partner
·         Includes classroom sessions to learn important details for knowing how to sail
o   parts of the boat
o   how to make your boat move when the wind is coming from various directions
o   how to set up a sailboat
·         Incorporate science activities about the habitats and animals of Long Island Sound 
 Program details/logistics
·         FREE (funded by SoundWaters through our own fundraising efforts)
·       See attached flyer for specific school dates
·         SoundWaters staff will pick the students up at the end of the school day and bring them back to SoundWaters for the program — See attached flyer for specific school times
·         Students must be picked up at 5:30 by a parent/guardian at Cove Island Park (there will be no transportation back to the school)
·         Limited Spaces (24 max per school) so register today!
How to Register
          Fill out the registration form attached to this email
o   We have distributed flyers/registration forms to the school
          Return it to Amy Arent, Assistant Education Director

          We will contact the family directly once we have received the registration form to confirm that the student is accepted.
